Non-Medical Prescribers (NMPs)
Currently NMPs prescribers can be:
- Nurses / midwives
- Community practitioner nurse prescribers*
- Pharmacists
- Optometrists
- Physiotherapists
- Podiatrists
- Paramedics
- Radiographers (Diagnostic & therapeutic)
- Dieticians
although this list may expand if and when legislation changes.
*Community practitioner nurse prescribers can only prescribe products included in the Nurse Prescribers’ Formulary for Community Practitioners (Part XVIIB(i) of the Drug Tariff).
The Integrated Care Board Medicines Optimisation Team have the responsibility to register new prescribers with NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA). This can only be done by a ICB authorised signatory on completion of a Non-Medical Prescriber Registration Form (see form below)
Once completed and signed by the NMP, the form should be returned to the Lincolnshire ICB Medicines Optimisation (MO) Team via email.
When a NMP leaves a GP practice(s) or organisation, de-registration is necessary with the NHSBSA using the same form and emailing to Lincolnshire ICB Medicines Optimisation (MO) Team. This is the employer’s responsibility. This ensures that records are up to date and that charges are correctly attributed to practices.
